BSB Oulton Park

08th May 2009
Took a trip upto Oulton Park on Monday for the second round of the British Superbike Championship and as usual for a Bank Holiday Monday the weather was a mixed bag of showers and sunshine. Still, it didn't put off the fans, the circuit was well and truly rammed out which surprised me a bit.
I normally get a weekend ticket for Oulton and do a bit of camping as you need a couple of days photography at this circuit really to try and get a few different corners in but I couldn't do it for this round.

I was also keen to test my new camera out on the superbikes, my Canon 1D MK111 has been giving me a few focusing problems of late so bikes travelling at over a 100mph would be a good test for it.
I started the day of at one of my favourite corners, Knickerbrook, you have a good point of view at this corner and it's good for group shots too.

Michael Rutter is having a tough time at the moment on board the NW200 Coca Cola Yamaha.

It's the same for Chris Walker too, I can't see him challenging for a race win anymore.

Stuart Easton is showing some promise though leading a few laps of race 1 and just missing out on a podium

as is his team mate Karl Harris by taking 2 second places.

Leon Camier has hit the ground running showing his talent by taking a double win and the lead in the championship

and so has Sylain Guintoli on the Worx Suzuki. He was a really good Moto Gp rider but to get on a superbike and get 4 podiums out of 4 starts on the tight and dangerous british circuits is stunning.

After the first race I moved around to Druids, I love the fast exit of this corner which has the riders fighting for control of the bikes as they try and wheelie over the bumps. Plus this would really test the cameras focusing system out too.

James Ellison on the Airwaves Yamaha.

Martin Jessop on the Riders Racing Honda.

Victor Cox nearly flipping the STP-JHS Racing MV Agusta.

Leon Camier happy with his second win of the day.

Chris Walker pulling a wheelie for the crowd.

I stayed at this corner for the whole of race 2 as there was no point in moving because everywhere was packed. I ended up using 4 gig worth of memory but the camera hadn't really performed that well with most of the images going in the bin. It looks like I'll be sticking to my 1D MK11N for the Superbikes in the future.

I'll start a new British Superbike gallery when I get a bit of time and upload the rest of the images.

Thanks for looking.
